EVANSTON, Ill. (November 2, 2024) - Before officially opening the 2024-25 season later in the coming week, Northwestern will take on Division II foe Parkside in an exhibition tilt at 6 p.m. inside Welsh-Ryan Arena. Admission will be free of charge and the matchup will air on B1G+.
Set to begin his 17th season at Northwestern, head coach Joe McKeown welcomes back eight letterwinners from last season's squad. That nucleus includes the team's top-two leading scorers in Melannie Daley (13.3 ppg) and Caileigh Walsh (13.0 ppg). Walsh also led the 'Cats in rebounding last year, pulling in just over five caroms per game. Caroline Lau was a fixture at point guard last season for McKeown, starting in all 30 games en route to averaging 5.4 assists per game, a mark that ranked fourth in the Big Ten Conference.
McKeown also added some veteran help through the transfer portal this past offseason. Graduate transfers Kyla Jones arrives after averaging 17.1 points last season at Brown, while Taylor Williams brings a Big Ten pedigree after spending the 2023-24 season at Michigan, where she scored in double figures four times. Grace Sullivan, a local product of north suburban Antioch, Ill., joins the 'Cats after a two-year stint at Bucknell that saw her appear in 53 contests.
A talented group of four first-years also joins the 'Cats. Top-60 recruits Xamiya Walton (No. 50) and Tayla Thomas (No. 56) join Claire Keswick and Kat Righeimer as part of a quartet that was ranked as the No. 25 class nationally by ESPN HoopGurlz.
