‘Cats Compete Close To Home Friday At Loyola Lakefront Invitational

Northwestern to be in action at 11:20 a.m. at Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course
EVANSTON, Ill. (October 3, 2024) – Northwestern cross country will make the short trek down DuSable Lake Shore Drive on Friday morning to compete at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational in Chicago, Ill.
Set to be held at the Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course on Chicago's north side, action in the women's open division 6k race will begin at 11:20 a.m. A link to live results can be accessed above.
The 'Cats last saw action this past Friday at the prestigious Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis. Competing against a stacked field that featured 15 nationally ranked sides, Northwestern, which is currently receiving votes in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Women's National Coaches' Poll, placed 18th overall as it edged out Big Ten Conference foe Michigan (19th; 458 points) by 36 points.
Individually, the graduate transfer pairing of Chloe Wellings and Holly Smith led the way for Northwestern in 6k championship race, each battling to spots inside the top 75. Wellings posted the top time by a Wildcat, racing across in 21:06.8 to land 61st. Smith followed just over five seconds back, coming through 70th with a time of 21:11.9.
Northwestern will be off next week before it travels to the Bradley Pink Classic on Friday, October 18. The meet will take place at the Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill., which will also serve as the host site for November's NCAA Midwest Regional.
