Earl, Whitman Lead ‘Cats To Victory At Bradley Pink Classic

Northwestern sweeps team, individual titles in both 6k races

PEORIA, Ill. (October 18, 2024) – Ava Earl and Maddy Whitman turned in standout efforts as Northwestern took home the team championship at the Bradley Pink Classic this afternoon in Peoria, Ill.
 
Paced by seven runners inside the top 20, Northwestern claimed the team title with 44 points, finishing 79 points clear of Loyola Chicago, which placed second with 123 points.
 
Earl and Whitman dazzled in leading a dominant showing by 'Cats in the women's 6k red race.  Out of Girdwood, Alaska, Earl used a late surge to take control, separating herself from the field as she captured medalist honors in a personal-best 20:14.4.  Whitman, a native of London, England, crossed less than eight seconds back of Earl, as she smashed her previous personal best by 44 seconds to finish third at 20:22.0.
 
Ava Criniti continued her impressive campaign, checking in 11th with a time of 20:37.2.  Chloe Wellings was hot on Criniti's heels, running a nine-second personal best of 20:38.3 that saw her claim 13thSkye Ellis followed shortly after in 16th place, racing through in 20:47.7, a near 17-second personal best.
 
To begin the afternoon, Mia Mraz was victorious in leading the 'Cats in the women's white race as Northwestern (36 points) outdistanced Kentucky (39 points) for the top spot on the team leaderboard.  Out of Broomfield, Colo., Mraz shaved more than 30 seconds off her two-week-old 6k personal best, surging across in 21:35.88 to finish 12 seconds clear of her next closest competitor.
 
The quartet of Serena Frolli, Whitney Currie, and Audrey Bannister joined Mraz inside the top 15.  Frolli bested her 6k season best, running 22:04.30 to place sixth overall.  Currie came in 14th with a season-best time of 22:28.60, while Bannister checked in just over a second back in 15th at 22:29.86.  Mallory Grubb rounded out the Northwestern top five in the race, setting a new 6k personal best for a second straight outing with a time of 22:54.94 to place 25th.
 
Northwestern will now turn its attention towards the postseason, a journey which begins on Friday, November 1 at the Big Ten Conference Cross Country Championships in Champaign, Ill.
