EAST LANSING, Mich. (October 1, 2024) – Jack Guggemos's 63rd minute goal stood up as the game-winner as Michigan State (4-4-2, 3-1 B1G) defeated Northwestern, 1-0 on Tuesday night at DeMartin Stadium.
Northwestern fell to 5-5-0 overall and 0-4-0 in Big Ten play after the setback.
How it Happened
After Michigan State opened the game with the bulk of possession in the early stages, Northwestern began to find its footing, creating a few chances toward the end of the first half. Paul Son tested the Spartan keeper from distance in the 30th minute and Tyler Glassberg fired a shot that sailed just over the MSU goal in the 33rd minute.
In the 51st minute, Tyler Glassberg earned a free kick deep in Michigan State's half. Collin McCamy's service found Thaddeus Dewing, whose header was saved by MSU keeper Zac Kelley.

The Wildcats applied pressure, pushing for the equalizer, but were unable to find the back of the net in a 1-0 setback.
