SEATTLE, Wash. (January 27, 2024) – Ava Earl fell just short of breaking the program record in the 3,000m run as Northwestern cross country enjoyed successful showings at both the UW Invitational and Blue Demon Alumni Classic this weekend.

Fresh off a victory in the mile run to open the Wildcats' indoor schedule last week at the Aurora Grand Prix, Earl carried momentum out to the Pacific Northwest.  She shaved 20 seconds off her previous 3,000m run personal best, racing through in 9:05.65 to take home a runner-up finish.  Earl's time was just three seconds off Rachel McCardell's program record in the event.

Katherine Hessler also saw action in the 3,000m run for Northwestern, checking in with a time of 9:59.02.

Kalea Bartolotto and Fiona Lenth both surged to top-15 showings in the 5,000m run inside the Dempsey Indoor Facility.  Bartolotto posted a near seven-second personal best, placing fifth overall in 16:29.89 to ascend to third all-time in Wildcat annals.  Lenth narrowly missed out on a personal best of her own, running 17:05.80 to place 14th.

Competing closer to home at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track & Field Center on Chicago's South Side, Skye Ellis spearheaded the attack for the 'Cats in the mile run.  Out of Jan Juc, Australia, Ellis ran the seventh fastest time in the event in program history, surging across in 4:51.53 en route to a runner-up finish.  Rachel Sessa (4th; 4:55.94) and Jackie Holman (5th; 4:56.73) also secured spots in the top five.

The pairing of Ava Criniti and Pippa Nuttall battled to top-10 finishes in the 3,000m run.  Criniti posted a time of 9:46.74 to finish eighth, while Nuttall was close behind in ninth at 9:47.26.

Northwestern will be idle next weekend before it heads to Boston, Mass. for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday, February 9.
