'Cats Hit the Road to Face Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Northwestern women's basketball will open their 2024 schedule on the road in University Park as they take on the Penn State Nittany Lions on Tuesday at Bryce Jordan Center. Tip-off between the two teams is set for 5 p.m. CT.

The Wildcats (6-7, 1-1 B1G) head into Happy Valley on a three-game win streak after taking down Bradley, Temple and Rutgers in December. They notched their first conference victory of the season last time out with a 77-70 victory over the Scarlet Knights at home.

For the second straight game, junior Melannie Daley recorded 20 points on Saturday. It was her fourth 20-point performance of the year and improved her to 13.5 points per game. As of Sunday, her 51.3 percent field goal percentage ranked third among conference guards and 17th among guards in the country.

Alongside Daley, Caileigh Walsh also posted 20+ points against Rutgers, leading the team with 22. Her second 20-point game of the season made her and Daley the first pair of Northwestern players to record 20 or more points in the same game since Jan. 6, 2022, when Daley (22) and Veronica Burton (25) did so in a 77-69 defeat of then-No. 22 Iowa.

Walsh, Daley and the 'Cats will take on a 9-4 Penn State team. The Nittany Lions are 0-2 in their first conference contests after dropping matchups against then-No. 12 Ohio State Michigan State. Penn State leads the all-time series against Northwestern 40-12, including a win in their most recent meeting, but the 'Cats have won five of the last seven dating back to 2019.

Following Tuesday's game, the 'Cats will return home to continue their Big Ten slate against No. 20 Ohio State on Friday at Welsh-Ryan Arena. That game tips off at 7 p.m. and will be streamed on B1G+.
