EVANSTON, Ill. β Northwestern field hockey's coaching staff was named the NFHCA Coaching Staff of the Year, the organization announced Thursday evening. It's the group's second Staff of the Year award in three years.
Head Coach Tracey Fuchs, Associate Head Coach Georgia Holland and Assistant Coach Will Byrne finished their season as the national runners up after leading the 'Cats to a program-record 21 straight wins. Their historic year included several milestones, including 13 shutouts and an undefeated conference season. Led by Fuchs, Holland and Byrne, the team captured the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles in the same season for the first time in program history.
The staff also coached the team to a program-record seven All-Big Ten selections, seven NFHCA All-Region selections and five All-Americans. Most recently, Annabel Skubisz and Lauren Wadas were named two of four finalists for the Honda Award for Field Hockey.
Fuchs completed her 15th season in Evanston this November with her third consecutive trip to the National Championship game. During her tenure, the 'Cats have won four Big Ten titles in addition to their first National Championship in 2021.
Holland joined the Wildcats in 2018 as an assistant coach and was elevated to associate head coach ahead of the 2021 season. The 'Cats have enjoyed winning records in five of her six seasons and have made the NCAA Tournament in each of those five.
Byrne joined the 'Cats eight seasons ago as an assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator. Since Byrne joined Fuchs' staff, the 'Cats have produced 16 All-Americans.
Fuchs, Holland and Byrne were named the West Region Staff of the Year for the third consecutive season earlier this December and Fuchs was awarded Big Ten Coach of the Year for the second time this November. This year's Staff of the Year award is their second selection after they were awarded it in 2021 following the program's National Championship season.
