Fuchs Collects 200th Win on 3-0 Shutout of Maine

9/8/2023 4:15:00β€―PM | Field Hockey

ORONO, Maine - Head Coach Tracey Fuchs collected her 200th win on Friday afternoon as the No. 3 Northwestern Wildcats collected their fourth straight win, shutting out the Maine Black Bears 3-0 in Orono.

Northwestern had control through the first quarter, outshooting Maine 5-0. The Black Bear defense was up to the task early, however, and the game stayed tied at 0-0 after the first 15 minutes.

The 'Cats continued to dominate possession in the second quarter and converted for the first goal of the game in the 25th minute. Ilse Tromp scored unassisted for her first goal of the season and of her Northwestern career, putting the 'Cats up 1-0.

After the break, Northwestern picked up where they left off and kept pressure on Maine's defense. The 'Cats prevented the Black Bears from taking a single shot in the period while adding another goal to their own tally, this one scored by Lane Herbert - her first of the season.

First year Olivia Bent-Cole added some final insurance for the 'Cats at the end, scoring her second goal of the season with two minutes left in the game to secure a final score of 3-0. The win was Northwestern's fourth of the road trip and brought them to 4-1 on the season.

Friday's victory over Maine also served as the second straight shutout for Annabel Skubisz, who has now shut out opponents in three of her last four games. Skubisz and the 'Cats defense have limited opponents to just two goals during their last four and have not allowed a goal for 11 consecutive quarters, dating back to the second period last Sunday.

Northwestern will wrap up its road trip tomorrow with a ranked matchup against No. 20 UMass on Saturday. Action from Orono is set to begin at noon CT.
