EVANSTON, Ill. — The individual accolades continue to rack up for Izzy Scane, who has been nominated for the ESPYs in the Best College Athlete, Women's Sports category.
The ESPY Awards (the Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly) is an annual event honoring the top athletes and sports performances. The event will air on July 12 at 7 p.m. CT on ABC. Fans can cast their vote at ESPN.com/ESPYS until 7 p.m. CT on Sunday, July 9.
Scane, the 2023 Tewaaraton Award winner, joins Caitlin Clark (Iowa, women's basketball), Jordy Bahl (Oklahoma, softball) and Trinity Thomas (Florida, gymnastics) as the four finalists for the award. Scane's nomination marks Northwestern's second ESPY bid in the last decade, joining the famed Nathan Taphorn to Derek Pardon buzzer-beating connection in 2017, which was up for Best Play that year. No Northwestern athlete has ever won an ESPY.
The Clarkston, Mich., native is coming off a near perfect campaign for the Wildcats, in which she helped the program secure its first national championship since 2012, a 21-1 record and a sweep of the Big Ten regular season and conference titles.
Scane was an unrivaled force around the cage in 2023, netting a program-record 99 goals — which broke her previous record of 98 — and becoming Northwestern's all-time leading goalscorer with 288 goals. Her 18 goals during the NCAA Tournament earned her Most Outstanding Player honors.
Scane's ESPY nomination joins a long list of individual awards for the Wildcats' premier attacker. Alongside the Tewaaraton Award, Scane was tabbed as the unanimous Big Ten Attacker of the Year, earned unanimous first team All-Big Ten selection honors, secured the IWLCA Player of the Year award and a first team All-American nod, along with winning the Honda Sport Award for Lacrosse.
Scane has announced she will return to Northwestern for the 2024 season.
