Boo Buie Announces Return to Northwestern for 2023-24

EVANSTON, Ill. – Guard Boo Buie announced his return to the Northwestern men's basketball team for the 2023-24 season via his Instagram account on Monday morning. After exploring the NBA Draft process, the graduate student rejoins the team after guiding the Wildcats to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and a second-place finish in the Big Ten Conference regular season last year.
Buie was named First Team All-Big Ten, USBWA All-District and a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award last year, which is awarded to the nation's best point guard, becoming the first player in program history to average 17.3 points and 4.5 assists per game or better. He ranked second in the Big Ten shooting 86.9% from the free throw line and his 126 made free throws were the most by a Wildcat since 1999. Buie became the first player in school history to make over 125 free throws and 60 3-points in the same season.
Serving as a team captain, the Albany, N.Y. native was instrumental in Northwestern defeating a program single-season record four AP ranked opponents and reaching the school's second NCAA Tournament. Against No. 1 Purdue, he recorded 26 points, a career-high three blocks, three steals and three assists leading the 'Cats to their first ever win over the nation's top ranked team.
He pumped in a career-high 35 points, the most points scored by a Wildcat in 11 seasons, on the road at Illinois. Buie poured in 22 points with five assists and five rebounds as Northwestern defeated Boise State in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
Buie's 1,541 career points currently rank 10th in school history. He became the 39th player in program history to reach the 1,000 point milestone last season against Purdue Fort Wayne. The guard's 447 career assists rank fourth in program history and is one of only three players in program history to tally over 400 career assists and 1,000 career points.
Last week Northwestern announced that Sullivan-Ubben Head Coach Chris Collins contract has been extended through the 2028 season.
