EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Senior Kevin Ferrer went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Northwestern Wildcats in a 9-2 loss to the Michigan State Spartans on Sunday.

Junior Luke Benneche (0-6) got the ball to start for Northwestern (7-31, 3-12 B1G) and took the loss. Junior Nolan Morr was a bright spot for the Wildcats, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 1.1 shutout innings, allowing two hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

At the plate, the Wildcats were paced by Ferrer. Sophomore Bennett Markinson put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double. Sophomore Alex Calarco also chipped in for Northwestern, putting together one hit and an RBI in three trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Michigan State used a series of extra base hits to amass a 5-0 lead through the first five innings. The Wildcats first put runs on the board in the sixth inning, when Calarco hit a sacrifice fly, and Ferrer followed it up with an RBI double. The Wildcats couldn't put anything else together, but Michigan State added four runs to their tally on the way to a 9-2 final.
