‘Cats close out 2022-23 slate in St. Louis, Mo.
EVANSTON, Ill. (April 20, 2023) – Coming off a strong showing at the NCAA Championships, Northwestern fencing will cap-off its 2022-23 schedule this weekend when it sends athletes to USA Fencing's April North American Cup (NAC).
Scheduled for April 21-23 inside the American's Center Convention Complex in St. Louis, Mo., the April NAC, which features the Division I National Championships, is part of a circuit qualify to represent Team USA.
The 'Cats are coming off a seventh-place showing at last month's NCAA Fencing Championships in Durham, N.C. A pair of first years earned All-American honors for the Wildcats, with both Karen Wang and Megumi Oishi taking home the distinction by virtue of placing in the top 10 in their respective events.
Wang dazzled in the epee, picking up a team-high 13 victories in poll bouts on her way to a ninth-place finish. Oishi was just as impressive competing in the sabre, recording 12 wins to land tenth overall.
