SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Northwestern point guard Boo Buie was named as one of five finalists for the 2023 Bob Cousy Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Monday. Named after Class of 1971 Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic and Holy Cross guard Bob Cousy, the annual honor, now in its 20th year, recognizes the top point guard in Division I men's college basketball.  The senior leads the Wildcats in points and assists, averaging 17.5 points and 4.6 assists per game. He is the first Wildcat to average 17 or more points per game since John Shurna posted 20.0 points per game in 2011-12. Buie is one of only three high-major players in the country averaging at least 17 points and 4.5 assists per game this season. His 532 points scored this season are the 10th-most in a single-season in program history.

In league play, Buie upped his game, posting 19.1 points per game against Big Ten foes, including 12 outings of 20 or more points in conference play. Buie joins Jalen Pickett as the only other Big Ten player selected as a finalist for the award.

Buie led the Wildcats to a 21-10 regular season record and a school-record 12 wins in Big Ten play. The Wildcats earned the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, the program's highest seed in the Big Ten Tournament ever.
