Northwestern Set For NCAA Fencing Championships This Weekend

3/24/2023 9:26:00 AM | Women's Fencing

EVANSTON, Ill. (March 24, 2023) – No. 4 Northwestern fencing will be well represented at the NCAA Championships this weekend in Durham, N.C., with four Wildcats set to take to the strips at the national meet.

Action in the women's competition inside historic Cameron Indoor Stadium on the campus of Duke University will open on Saturday at 8 a.m. (CT) with the opening three rounds in the epee, followed by the foil and sabre.  Sunday's slate will also begin at 8 a.m. (CT), with action across all three weapons.  Semifinal and championship bouts are set for 12:30 p.m. (CT).

Anna Biasco (Foil), Karen Wang (Epee), Megumi Oishi (Sabre), and Sky Miller (Sabre) are set to see action for the 'Cats this weekend in North Carolina.  All four members of the quartet finished in the top eight of their respective weapons back on March 11 at the NCAA Midwest Regional inside Welsh-Ryan Arena.

No strangers to the national stage during their careers, Biasco and Miller will be appearing at the NCAA Championships for the third time in their quest to become three-time All-Americans.

This weekend serves as a homecoming for Miller, who calls Durham, N.C. home.  Miller hopes to recapture her success for the 2021 NCAA Championships, where she placed second overall, the top finish by a Northwestern fencer in program history.

Oishi and Wang have both dazzled in their debut seasons with the Wildcats.  Oishi posted an impressive 64-26 record during the regular season before placing third at the regional meet, while Wang looks to build off a strong fifth-place showing.

ESPN+ will provide live coverage of the semifinal and final-round bouts of the NCAA Fencing Championships beginning at 12:30 p.m. (CT) on Sunday afternoon.
