Guevara School Records Highlight Day 3 of NCAA Women’s Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Graduate student Miriam Guevara broke her own school record twice in the 100-yard butterfly to lead the 'Cats on day three of the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.
 
In this morning's preliminaries, Guevara, in her fifth NCAA championship appearance, undercut her previous time of 51.38 from last year with a 51.24 to qualify for the B-final. She was even faster during finals, swimming a 50.91 to finish 10th and earn All-American Honorable Mention honors.
 
Northwestern also secured another top-16 finish in the 400-yard medley relay as the team of Justine Murdock, Hannah Brunzell, Guevara and Ashley Strouse recorded a season's best of 3:32.20 for 15th place and the seventh-fastest performance in program history. Murdock's backstroke lead-off time of 52.91 also equaled her personal best from last year's championships.
 
The day also saw Markie Hopkins score 276.70 points to finish 30th in 3-meter diving, while Strouse (1:46.48) and Jamie Brennan (1:49.14) ended 43rd and 60th, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle.
 
The Wildcats wrap up action in Knoxville tomorrow with Strouse lining up in the 100-yard freestyle, Guevara swimming the 200-yard butterfly, Hopkins and Jaye Patrick contesting platform diving, and Lola Mull competing in the 1650-yard freestyle.
 
Northwestern will conclude the 2022-2023 season with an appearance in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
