Wildcats Pick Up Pair Of Ranked Wins At Northwestern Duals

Northwestern knocked off No. 1 Notre Dame on first day of event
EVANSTON, Ill. (February 8, 2023) – No. 5 Northwestern fencing downed a pair of ranked opponents, highlighted by a win over top-ranked Notre Dame, to highlight a successful Northwestern Duals inside Ryan Fieldhouse this past weekend.
LAST TIME OUT
After downing UC-San Diego by a 15-12 final in their opening dual of the two-day meet on Saturday, the 'Cats defeated No. 11 Temple by an identical scoreline, with the sabre squad leading the way with a 7-2 mark.
In a showdown with No. 1 Notre Dame, Northwestern turned in a dominant effort, winning across all three weapons en route to an impressive 19-8 win over the Fighting Irish. The Wildcats followed up that performance by besting Air Force, 17-10, before routing FDU, 27-0, to complete a 5-0 opening day.
After dropping a tightly contested 15-12 decision to No. 13 Stanford to begin Sunday's slate, Northwestern bounced back with a 20-7 win over Boston College that saw the Wildcats sweep all three weapons. In their penultimate bout of the day, the 'Cats battled No. 6 Ohio State until the very end, falling by a razor-thin 14-13 margin.
Northwestern capped off the event on a high note, defeating Incarnate Word, 19-8, as the Wildcats were again victorious in all three weapons. Prior to the dual against the Cardinals, Northwestern honored its graduating senior class of Isabelle Banin, Anna Biasco, Celia Crompton, Thea Nguyen, and Julia Shalansky.
