Late Run Not Enough in 78-66 Loss to Nebraska

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern forced 24 Nebraska turnovers, but fell 78-66 to the Cornhuskers at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Monday night.

The Wildcats (8-15, 1-11) had three players score in double figures, led by Paige Mott, who had 13 points. Courtney Shaw tacked on 12 points and four steals off of the bench and Sydney Wood chipped in as well with 12 points, four assists, three steals and two blocks.

Northwestern blocked eight Cornhusker shots, their most since blocking eight shots on January 25 against Chicago State.

Northwestern forced 24 Nebraska turnovers while committing 11 themselves in Monday's game. The Wildcats turned those takeaways into 27 points on the offensive end of the floor. Shaw's four steals led the way for Northwestern.

How It Happened

Northwestern struggled out of the gate, falling behind 30-15 at the end of the first quarter.

Nebraska kept added a bucket to build a 32-15 advantage before Northwestern went on an 8-0 run, highlighted by a three from Jillian Brown, to narrow its deficit to 32-23. Nebraska responded before the half, leaving the Wildcats trailing 37-25 heading into halftime.

Northwestern's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Wildcats faced a 56-34 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter.

Northwestern chipped away at the deficit, narrowing it to 60-44 before exploding for a 9-0 run, finished off by Wood's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 60-53 with 4:06 to go in the contest. Nebraska closed the game out by making its last 12 free throws for a 78-66 victory.
