WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. -- The Northwestern women's basketball team got a 28-point performance from the bench, but fell 76-61 to the Purdue Boilermakers on the road Sunday.

Hailey Weaver led the Wildcats (8-17, 1-13) with 14 points. Caileigh Walsh helped out with nine points and Sydney Wood scored seven.

Northwestern out-rebounded Purdue 38-30 in Sunday's game, led by seven boards from Jillian Brown. The Wildcats also pulled down 14 offensive rebounds and scored 13 second chance points.

How It Happened

Northwestern kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 14-12.

Purdue kept adding to that lead, building a 17-12 advantage before Northwestern went on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Courtney Shaw, to tie the game at 17. Purdue then took control, putting the Wildcats at a 35-29 disadvantage heading into halftime.

Northwestern's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Wildcats faced a 59-45 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Northwestern's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled eight of the team's 16 third-quarter points.

Purdue kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 64-46 advantage before Northwestern went on a 7-0 run to shrink the deficit to 64-53 with 4:29 to go in the contest. Purdue responded and outscored the Wildcats the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 76-61. Northwestern took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 16 points in the paint.
