Wadas Named NFHCA West Player of the Year

EVANSTON, Ill. β Senior Lauren Wadas was named the NFHCA Regional Player of the Year for the West region, the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association announced Thursday. Wadas is the second straight Wildcat to bring home the honor after Bente Baekers was awarded last December.

Following a standout senior campaign, Wadas adds Regional Player of the Year honors to an already impressive list of awards. She was unanimously selected to the All-Big Ten First Team and also earned NCAA All-Tournament honors for the second postseason in a row.
Wadas, one of four team captains, put up a career-high eight goals during the 'Cats' 2023 season. That included the game-winner against No. 15 Michigan, a clutch insurance goal against No. 3 Iowa and both goals in Northwestern's defeat of No. 16 Penn State. Once postseason play began, Wadas contributed a goal each in the NCAA first- and second-round victories over Miami (OH) and Louisville.
In addition to goals, Wadas posted single-season career highs for assists (6) and points (22). She started all 23 games of the 'Cats' season and helped the team to a program-record 21 straight wins from Sept. 1 through Nov. 17.
Wadas is the third Wildcat all-time to be named the Regional Player of the Year, joining Baekers and Chelsea Armstrong, who earned the honor in 2012.
