'Cats Host Rutgers in Big Ten Home Opener

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern women's basketball is back at home for their final game of 2023 on Saturday as they resume conference play against Rutgers. Tip-off between the Wildcats and the Scarlet Knights is set for 2:00 p.m.

The 'Cats (5-7, 0-1 B1G) are coming off back-to-back wins against Bradley and Temple to close out non-conference play. They held both opponents under 70 points while shooting better than 50 percent from the floor in both games themselves. Rutgers (6-8, 0-1 B1G) has lost three straight, including their conference opener against then-No. 16 Indiana.

Northwestern has looked to several sources for offense through the season so far, but leading scorer Melannie Daley has nearly always been in that mix. The junior has scored in double digits in nine of 12 games this season, including three 20-point games. Most recently, she recorded 21 against Temple last Thursday to bring her season average to 13.0 points per game. Daley has reached that on 51.1 percent shooting from the floor, which is seventh in the Big Ten and fourth among conference guards.

Caileigh Walsh, Casey Harter and Paige Mott all hit double-digits against Temple as well, making it the sixth game this season with four or more Northwestern players in double figures.

After hosting Rutgers, the 'Cats will prepare to open their 2024 on the road at Penn State on Tuesday. Tip-off in Happy Valley is set for 5 p.m. CT.
