EVANSTON, Ill. - Following Northwestern field hockey's third straight trip to the NCAA Championship game, seven Wildcats earned All-Region honors from the NFHCA, the organization announced on Wednesday. Olivia Bent-Cole, Peyton Halsey, Alia Marshall, Annabel Skubisz and Lauren Wadas earned first-team honors in the west while Greta Hinke and Ilse Tromp were named to the second team.
The 'Cats' five first-team selections tie for the program record, last reached in 1994, and make up nearly a third of the All-West team. Their seven overall honorees tie for most by a school in the region this year (Louisville) and fall just one shy of the school record for All-Region selections, last reached in 2022.
Bent-Cole added first team honors to an already impressive resume that includes selection to the All-Big Ten first team, the Big Ten All-Tournament Team and NCAA All-Tournament team. Her ten goals were third most on the team this season and included the game-winner that clinched the 'Cats' Big Ten Tournament Championship title.
Halsey earned first-team selection for the first time after being named to the All-West second team last season. A graduate student, she led the team in both goals (13) and points (36) after scoring on the game-tying penalty stroke in the National Championship Game earlier this month. That gave her 86 career points, which ties for 17th all-time in 'Cats history.
Fellow graduate student Marshall also caps her Wildcat career with her first first-team selection in the region. She led Northwestern this season with 24 assists, which was one off from tying the program record, and finished her time in Evanston with 47 in five years - fourth among Northwestern players all-time.
Reigning Big Ten Goalkeeper of the year, Skubisz collects first-team All-West honors for the first time in her career as well. The senior set a new program high for shutouts in a single season this year, with 13. Along the way, she collected for conference Player of the Week selections, first-team All-Big Ten honors and the Big Ten Tournament MVP trophy.
Rounding out Northwestern's first team honorees, Wadas earned her second straight first team selection in the region. The senior scored eight goals for the 'Cats this year, including one each in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament, and collected both All-Big Ten and NCAA All-Tournament team selections for her efforts.Β
Hinke and Tromp collected their first All-Region selections after both being named to the all-conference second team last month as well. The pair contributed to the nation's best defense this year, holding opponents scoreless in 13 of 23 games and limiting them to just 0.58 goals per game.
