Wildcats Back In Action Saturday At Lindenwood Open

Northwestern to open competition at 9 a.m. in St. Charles, Mo.
EVANSTON, Ill. (November 17, 2023) – After officially opening its 2023-24 season last weekend, Northwestern wrestling will be back on the mat in St. Charles, Mo. for the Lindenwood Open on Saturday.
The 'Cats are slated to send a contingent of nine wrestlers to Hyland Arena just outside of St. Louis. Competition in both the Gold (open) and Black (freshman/sophomore) divisions will begin at 9 a.m.
THE FIELD
Saturday's packed field features a quartet of Big Ten Conference institutions, with Northwestern set to be joined by Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa. Big 12 foes Missouri and Oklahoma State will also be in action.
LAST TIME OUT
Nine Wildcats posted top-eight finishes as Northwestern kicked off the season at the Michigan State Open in East Lansing, Mich. last Saturday. That group was led by the pairing of Joel VanderVere (141 pounds) and Jacob Bostelman (157 pounds), who each posted 3-0 records en route to taking home titles in their respective weight classes, with Bostelman topping the freshman/sophomore division.
Evan Bates and Jack Jessen placed second and third, respectively, in the open division at 197 pounds, while Kolby McClain battled to a runner-up finish in the 141-pound freshman/sophomore division. Sam Cartella turned in a gritty effort in the open division at 157 pounds, winning five straight matches on the back side of the bracket to finish third.
UP NEXT
Northwestern will head to Las Vegas, Nev. for the Cliff Keen Lass Vegas Invitational, December 1-2.
