Nguyen Claims Big Ten Women’s Golfer Of The Week Honors

Junior picked up first career victory at Windy City Collegiate Classic
EVANSTON, Ill. (October 4, 2023) – Only 24 hours removed from her first collegiate victory, Northwestern University junior Lauryn Nguyen (Seattle, Wash./West Seattle) was named the Big Ten Conference Women's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday. This marks the second weekly league honor of her career.
Nguyen led the charge as the 'Cats hosted the Windy City Collegiate Classic at the Glen View Club in suburban Golf, Ill. The Seattle, Wash. native started fast, carding a six-under-par 66 during opening round play. Following a two-under-par 70 in the event's second round, Nguyen cemented her spot at the top of the leaderboard in Tuesday's final round, firing a three-under-par 69 to close play with an 11-under-par 205 (66-70-69) that saw her finish two shots clear of her next closest competitors.
Nguyen finished at par or better in 48 of the 54 holes she played, a total that included 13 birdies and two eagles.
Bolstered by Nguyen's effort, the second lowest 54-hole tally in the Big Ten this season, the Wildcats earned a runner-up finish as part of a loaded field that featured nine teams ranked in the Golfweek Top 25 Rankings.
Northwestern is back on the course at the start of next week, October 9-10, when it competes at the Illini Invitational in Medinah, Ill.
