Wildcats to host five home duals, 59th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships
EVANSTON, Ill. (October 17, 2023) – Set to begin his ninth season leading the Wildcats, head coach Matt Storniolo announced the 2023-24 schedule for the Northwestern University wrestling team on Tuesday. The 'Cats will host five home duals, in addition to the 59th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships.
Northwestern raises the curtain on its new slate on November 11, visiting East Lansing, Mich. for the Michigan State Open. Following the Lindenwood Open (Nov. 18), the Wildcats will jet west to Las Vegas, Nev. for the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, December 1-2. Northwestern is back in action just over a week later at the Cleveland State Open (Dec. 10) before opening its dual schedule on December 19 when it makes the short trip west to DeKalb, Ill. for a matchup with Northern Illinois.
The NOW Arena in suburban Hoffman Estates, Ill. will again play host to the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships, which are slated for December 29-30. All session, day passes, and single-session tickets for the 59th installment of the event are available through Ticketmaster.
Action in the nation's premier wrestling conference begins on January 14 when Northwestern travels to Maryland for its Big Ten Conference opener. Six days later, the 'Cats will turn their attention downstate to Champaign, Ill. for a clash with Illinois on January 20 inside Huff Hall.
Storniolo's crew returns to the friendly confines of Welsh-Ryan Arena on January 26 to entertain Nebraska in its home opener. Traditional national powerhouse Iowa makes its way to Evanston to close out the brief two-dual homestand on January 28.
The beginning of February sees the 'Cats wrap up the road portion of their schedule, with trips to Wisconsin (February 2) and Minnesota (February 4) on the docket. Northwestern will settle in at home for the remainder of the regular season, opening a season-ending three-dual homestand with Indiana on February 9. Following a non-conference tilt with Binghamton (February 16), the Wildcats host Purdue on February 18 in their home finale.
The University of Maryland will play host to the 2024 Big Ten Conference Wresting Championships, March 9-10, inside XFINITY Center in College Park, Md. T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo. will provide the setting for the 2024 NCAA Wrestling Championships, March 21-23.
Storniolo welcomes back a strong nucleus of returning letterwinners from last season, a group that includes four 2023 NCAA qualifiers in Trevor Chumbley, Troy Fisher, Maxx Mayfield, and Frankie Tal-Shahar.
