Wildcats Take U.S. to the Wire, Defeat Canadians in Exhibitions

SPARKS, Md. – The Northwestern lacrosse team split a pair of exhibition games against international competition on Saturday at the Fall Classic hosted by USA Lacrosse in Sparks, Md. The Wildcats defeated the Canadian U20 team 16-7 before falling to the U.S. U20 team, 13-12.

Game 1: Northwestern 16, Canada U20 7
With the game tied 6-6 at halftime, Northwestern exploded for 10 second half goals. Hannah Johnson led the way offensively for the Wildcats recording four goals and one assist. Molly Laliberty and Cara Nugent split time in goal, combining for eight assists. NU tallied 16 draw controls compared to Canada's 11 and the 'Cats also outshot the Canadians, 27-19.
Game 2: U.S. U20 13, Northwestern 12
Northwestern saw Izzy Scane (4), Dylan Amonte (4) and Sam Smith (3) find the back of the net, but the Americans scored eight goals in the second half to slip past the defending national champion Wildcats by just one goal. Erin Coykendall also tallied Smith pulled down six draw controls and Carleigh Mahoney had four.
Northwestern was led by assistant coach Scott Hiller, as Wildcat head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller was leading the U.S. team in preparation for the 2024 World Lacrosse Women's U20 Championship in Hong Kong, China from August 15-24. Playing for the Americans, Madison Taylor posted three goals and five draw controls.
