‘Cats to host pair of home meets

EVANSTON, Ill. (October 12, 2023) – Under the direction of eighth-year head coach Zach Moss, the Northwestern University women's fencing team announced the schedule for its 2023-24 season on Thursday.  The 'Cats will host a pair of home events as part of their regular season slate.

"This schedule gives us a great opportunity to test ourselves against a wide range of competition, including some of the best teams in the country," Moss commented.  "We're looking forward to getting ourselves prepared for a great season and strong postseason."

Northwestern kicks off its season inside the familiar surroundings of Ryan Fieldhouse when it plays host to the Remenyik ROC/RJCC, October 14-15.  Following trips to the Penn State Open (Oct. 21) and the October North American Cup (Oct. 27-30), the Wildcats raise the curtain on their dual schedule at the start of November, visiting Colorado Springs, Colo. for the Western Invitational, November 4-5.

After heading to Fort Worth, Texas for the November North American Cup event (Nov. 10-13), the 'Cats travel to Columbus, Ohio for the Elite Invitational on November 19, an event hosted by CCFC rival Ohio State.

Following the December (Dec. 1-3) and January (Jan. 5-8) North American Cup events, the dual season ramps up beginning on January 14 when Northwestern sees action as part of the Tufts Invitational ahead of the Philadelphia Invitational (Jan. 21) and the DeCicco Duals (Jan. 27).

Moss' crew returns home to host the Northwestern Duals inside Ryan Fieldhouse, February 3-4.  The Wildcats will wrap up the regular season portion of their schedule at the Tar Heel Duals on February 10.

Before the postseason begins, a select group of student-athletes will travel to Charlotte, N.C. for the Junior Olympics, February 16-19.

Postseason action officially kicks off February 24-25 when Northwestern battles its six league foes at the CCFC Championships, which will be followed two weeks later by the NCAA Midwest Regionals on March 9 in Detroit, Mich.

Ohio State will host the 2024 NCAA Fencing Championships, March 21-22, inside French Field House in Columbus, Ohio.

Northwestern will wrap up the year by sending student-athletes to the April North American Cup in Salt Lake City, Utah, April 25-28.

Moss welcomes back an experienced nucleus from last season's team that finished second at the CCFC Championships and qualified for student-athletes for the NCAA Championships.  That group includes 2022-23 All-Americans Megumi Oishi (sabre) and Karen Wang (epee), both of whom placed in the top 10 of their respective events at the national meet.
