EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern held Purdue to just 39.3 percent shooting from the field, but fell 65-54 to the Boilermakers at home Saturday.

The Wildcats (6-11, 0-7) had three players score in double figures. Kaylah Rainey paced the team with 14 points and also collected five assists and five steals. Caileigh Walsh tacked on 10 points and two blocks while Sydney Wood helped out with 10 points, nine rebounds and two steals.
 


How It Happened

After falling behind 8-2, Northwestern went on a 7-0 run with 5:52 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Wood, to take a 9-8 lead. The Wildcats couldn't keep pace for the rest of the period, however, and entered the second quarter down 12-9.

Purdue kept adding to their lead in the second, building a 30-16 advantage. Northwestern responded, however, finishing the half with an 11-0 run that was highlighted by a three from Rainey. The 'Cats narrowed their deficit to 30-27 heading into the break.

Purdue continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 35-30 advantage, before Northwestern went on a 6-0 run to grab a 36-35 lead with 6:51 to go in the third. Purdue responded to seize a 49-43 lead entering the fourth quarter. Northwestern played well near the basket in the third, scoring 10 of their 16 points in the paint.

The Wildcats could not pull any closer in the fourth, and eventually lost by a final score of 65-54.
