EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern's third matchweek is a busy one, with home games against Western Michigan on Friday, September 9 and Houston Baptist on Monday, September 12. Both matches kick off at 7 p.m. CT and can be streamed on B1G+.
The Wildcats (0-2-2) tied Loyola Chicago (0-0) and fell to Villanova (4-0) last weekend. Northwestern was the first team this season to earn a clean sheet against Loyola. Christian Garner made six saves to keep the Ramblers scoreless. The best chance of the game for Northwestern came when Justin Weiss hit the crossbar shortly into the second half. Against Villanova, NU tallied five shots on goal, led by Paul Son, who contributed two.
Western Michigan comes in with a 2-1-0 record, having just beaten Michigan State (1-0) and Wisconsin (2-1). Western Michigan defeated the Badgers off a last-second goal scored by Jonathan Robinson. The meeting between Northwestern and Western Michigan will be the eighth in program history. Northwestern defeated Western Michigan, 1-0, in 2002 in the last meeting between the two schools. The Broncos lead the all-time series 5-2.
Houston Baptist has a 1-2-2 record after falling to Oral Roberts on September 9. The Huskies beat Cal Poly (4-2) for their lone win of the season. The meeting with Houston Baptist will be the first in the history of both programs.
Northwestern dives into Big Ten play next weekend on the road at Rutgers at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday, September 17 on B1G+.
