Wildcats Extinguish Flames, 3-0

CHICAGO - The Northwestern volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win (25-15, 25-22, 25-23) against the UIC Flames Saturday afternoon on the road at the Flames Athletic Center.

The Chicago Cup win improved Northwestern's overall record to 10-1 on the season, its best start since 2017, when it also started 10-1.

Temi Thomas-Ailara finished with 14 kills on the day to lead the Wildcats offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .387. Megan Miller's ten digs and Desiree Becker's five blocks led the Wildcats defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Wildcats grabbed control of the set-one lead at 4-3 and never trailed to win 25-15. Northwestern led by as many as 10 points at 24-14 before finishing off the set, collecting 16 kills in the process.

SET 2 | Northwestern continued to roll after a set-one win by earning a 25-22 victory in set two. The Wildcats took the set propelled by a solid showing on the attacking end. Northwestern registered a .314 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set win. The Wildcats opened up a 15-9 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there. Northwestern's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four UIC attacks in the stanza.

SET 3 | Northwestern then sealed the sweep with a victory in set number three. The Wildcats survived a back-and-forth set to win 25-23 in a stanza that featured two lead changes and was tied 10 times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than three points along the way.

The Wildcats finish the Chicago Cup Saturday night against the Loyola Ramblers at 5 p.m. CT, before opening up Big Ten play at Wisconsin Friday September 23rd.
