EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's soccer team returns to Evanston for its home opener at it welcomes SIUE (1-1) at 4:30 p.m. CT on Thursday, August 25, inside Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium. The game will be broadcast on B1G+. NU concludes the weekend by traveling to Oakland (2-0) at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday, August 28.

Northwestern (1-1) will play its first game at home after a two-game road trip to Kansas, where NU split the weekend with a 1-1 record. The Wildcats first played Kansas State, a come-from-behind victory in which they came out on top, 2-1. Northwestern trailed early after a Kansas State goal just 5:40 into the game and remained down by one at halftime, despite leading 7-3 in shots. The Wildcats kept up the barrage of shots in the second half, and goals by first-year Caterina Regazzoni and sophomore Emma Phillips just five minutes apart put Northwestern up for good. Northwestern then took on Kansas, falling 1-0 in a game in which the Wildcats outshot the Jayhawks, 15-10.

The game is Northwestern's second all-time meeting against the Cougars; the Wildcats came out on top in their last match in the second round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament, 1-0. The Wildcats hold an all-time record of 3-0-1 against Oakland, most recently defeating the Grizzlies 2-0 in 2013.

Like the Wildcats, SIUE opened the season with a 1-1 record. The Cougars took down Indiana State, 2-1, before falling to IUPUI, 3-2. SIUE is coming off a season in which it finished 11-7, winning the Ohio Valley Conference Championship before falling to No. 3 Notre Dame in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. SIUE's offense is led by sophomore Sidney Christopher, who tallied one goal and two assists in last weekend's pair of games.

Meanwhile, the Golden Grizzlies are 2-0 to start the year after shutting out DePaul and Kent State to begin the 2022 season. Goalkeeper Noëmi Stadelmann has been a brick wall in goal, earning eight saves while keeping her opponents scoreless so far. Stadelman was named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts.

Head coach Michael Moynihan gave goalkeepers Reiley Fitzpatrick and Mia Raben equal time in the net over the season's first two matches. The first-year, Fitzpatrick, started both games, while the Wake Forest graduate transfer, Raben, took over at halftime to finish. Both goalies posted nearly identical stat lines, with each allowing one goal and earning one save over the weekend.

NU is back in the Windy City as it takes on DePaul in Lincoln Park at 4 p.m. CT on Thursday, Sept. 1.
