Northwestern Field Hockey Announces 2022 Schedule

EVANSTON, Ill. β The champs are back. Northwestern Field Hockey announced its complete 2022 season schedule on Monday, consisting of 18 regular season games that include seven home games at Lakeside Field.
The defending national champions will begin their conquest for a second-consecutive national title on August 28 with a trip to Amherst, Massachusetts to face off against Maine, followed by the host UMass on August 29. The following weekend, the Wildcats will head out east once again as they travel to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts for the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, where they will face off against Duke (September 2) and the host Boston College (September 4).
Northwestern's home opener is slated for Friday, September 9 at 4 pm CT as the 'Cats welcome the Liberty Flames in what marks a rematch of the 2021 National Championship game, which the Wildcats won in 2-0 fashion. Two days later, the "Cats host Virginia for a Sunday matinee.
After a pair of road matchups against Ivy League foes Penn and Princeton, the 'Cats will host Iowa at Lakeside Field on Friday, September 23 to open Big Ten conference play. The meeting with the Hawkeyes marks a rematch of the 2021 NCAA Quarterfinals game, which Northwestern won 1-0 thanks to a dramatic goal by Lauren Wadas in the final minute of regulation.
In total, the Wildcats will play eight Big Ten games in the regular season before heading to the Big Ten Tournament this year, hosted by Ohio State. Last season, the Big Ten led the nation sending seven teams to the 18-team NCAA Tournament bracket.
The defending champion 'Cats return an abundance of talent to this season's roster, including their pair of First-Team All-Americans, Maddie Zimmer and Bente Baekers,Β three-time All-Big Ten honoree Kayla Blas, Team USA National Team member Alia Marshall, captain Peyton Halsey, and starting goalie Annabel Skubisz among others.
