'Cats Boast Six USFCA Finalists

Evanston, IL - The 'Cats are dominating even in the postseason being named finalists for a multitude of awards by The United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA.) The 'Cats are finalists in a total of six different categories, in every possible accolade the USFCA can award.

Graduate student Sarah Filby is a finalist for Women's Foil Fencer of the year. Filby started her final season with a hot start finishing second at the Temple Open. She led the foil squad in bouts fenced and victories ending with a 34-win season. The former Canadian Junior World Team member and NCAA All-American finished 13th at NCAA Championships this past year and totaled a 34-win season. A leader on the strip also led in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA, truly exemplifying the Wildcat way.

Sophomore Sky Miller is a finalist for Women's Sabre Fencer of the year. Last year's NESPY Newcomer of the year award winner earned her second straight All-American Status by finishing ninth at NCAAs. Putting up 29 wins in dual meet matches, Sky finished second at NCAA Regionals and fifth at Temple Open, Miller also fenced for Team USA at Senior World Cups, dominating the season from wire to wire.

 First-Year Hanna Lipthay is a finalist in two categories! She is in the running for both Newcomer Collegiate Athlete of the year and Women's Epeeist of the Year. The epeeist from Hungary won 39 bouts in the regular season, while also competing internationally in Junior World Cups for her native Hungary. Lipthay also helped secure the epee championship for the Wildcats during Conference Championships. She capped off her season with an 18th place finish in their first NCAA Championship appearance and led the entire team in victories throughout the season.

Head Coach Zach Moss is a finalist for Women's Head Coach of the year in his 6th year, leading the team to a top-10 finish at NCAAs, a second-place conference finish, and the epee squad's conference championship. Assistant Coach Dennis Kolakowski in his first full year with the Wildcats is a finalist for Women's Assistant Coach of the year for the second time and won the award the previous year.
