Northwestern Roars Back Against No. 23 Maryland

Northwestern became just the second team this season to defeat Maryland at their home ballpark, and the first to take down the Terrapins in a nine-inning game at Shipley Field.
The Wildcats did it behind a five-run eight inning rally that began with a Jay Beshears SAC fly to left field, scoring Tony Livermore and evening the score at 1-1. Later in the inning, Vincent Bianchina ripped a two-out two-run RBI single to right field to put Northwestern ahead for good. Bennett Markinson would add an insurance run before Patrick Herrera was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home the fifth run of the frame.
The 'Cats would pick up a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth thanks to a solo shot from Anthony Calarco and another RBI double from Bianchina.
Northwestern was in a position to rally past a top-25 opponent thanks to another stellar start from Michael Farinelli, who cruised through five innings of one-run baseball, striking out four. The graduate transfer has now allowed two run or less in seven of his last eight starts for Northwestern.
He turned things over to the bullpen in the sixth inning, where Coby Moe and Mike Doherty each pitched two innings of solid relief work. Moe would pick up the win on Saturday, his third of the season.
Northwestern will look to win the series on Sunday afternoon, with a 12pm CT first pitch in College Park.
