Miller Medals, 'Cats Impress at Senior NAC

Charlotte, NC - This past weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Fencing held its Senior National Championships as a part of their North American Cup series. These events serve as selection events for World Championship and Olympic Teams. Several of the 'Cats from Northwestern Fencing competed across the multitude of events held.

Second-year sabrist Sky Miller, in her home state, led the way finishing with a Bronze Medal in the Senior National Championships for Women's Sabre. Along her path, Sky beat two current World Team Members in the rounds of 16 and 8, and tied for third with Notre Dame alum and 2021 U.S. Olympian Francesca Russo.

In the Junior Women's Foil event first year Rowan Park powered through a field of 190 competitors to finish 10th renewing her National Rating and earning critical points towards the Junior World Team. Rowan went 6-0 in her pool round and a 3-1 record in the direct elimination bracket to go a combined 9-1 on the day. She also competed in the Women's Foil Senior National Championships finishing 69th of 99.

Also earning a spot in the Senior National Championships was first year sabrist Kailing Sathyanath making the top 64 of the best fencers in the country. Kailing also competed in Junior Women's Sabre finishing 67th alongside squadmate Amelia Dungey, also a first-year, who came in 37th. Second year sabrist Sumin Liu competed in the Division 2 event and placed 71st of 94 in their North American Cup debut.

The 'Cats will be back in action at USA Fencing's Summer Nationals and July Challenge, the largest fencing tournament in the world, this year held in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
