EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern lacrosse student-athletes Lauren Gilbert and Jill Girardi have been selected as nominees for the 2022 Tewaaraton Award, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced on Thursday.
This is Gilbert's second straight nomination for the most prestigious award in college lacrosse. Gilbert leads the Big Ten Conference and ranks fifth nationally with 62 goals this season. On April 7, the Oregon native set a career-high by scoring eight goals in a win over Rutgers, after which she was named the IWCLA National Player of the Week. Gilbert has also earned three Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors this season.
Girardi has had a standout season, setting single-game career-highs in both goals (5) and draw controls (19). The graduate student's 19 draw controls against Rutgers is the most by any Big Ten Player this season and second-most in program history. She has 37 goals on the season, ranking second among Wildcats. Girardi has earned four Big Ten Midfielder of the Week honors.
This year's nominees for the Tewaaraton Award represent 15 different schools. Five finalists will be selected in three weeks at the conclusion of the regular season.
No. 2 Northwestern will look to capture Big Ten regular season title for the second year in a row as it travels to No. 8 Maryland at 10:30 a.m. CT on Saturday, April 23.
