ROSEMONT, Ill. – Three Northwestern lacrosse student-athletes earned weekly award recognition from the Big Ten Conference, the league office announced Tuesday (March 29). Jill Girardi earned Midfielder of the Week while Madison Doucette claimed Defensive Player of the Week and Samantha White took home Freshman of the Week honors.
Girardi tied for the team-lead scoring five points (4g, 1a) and registered a game-high seven draw controls in a 12-9 win at No. 12 Michigan last week. She earned the award for the second time this season. The Wildcats won their program-record 15th consecutive Big Ten Conference contest and are undefeated all-time against the Wolverines (11-0).
Doucette faced 34 shots between the pipes and recorded a career-high 16 saves, the most by any Northwestern goalkeeper since Julie Krupnick (16) in a 21-15 win over Dartmouth on Feb. 15, 2019. She ranks second in the Big Ten with 8.00 saves per game this season.
White tallied a team-high three ground balls and logged one assist in Ann Arbor. She was part of a defense that held UM scoreless in the first period and allowed just three goals in the first half.
The Wildcats begin their two-game road trip to the Keystone State by continuing conference play at 6 p.m. CT, on Friday, April 1, against Penn State.
