Wildcats Sweep Rutgers, 7-0

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern coasted past Rutgers, 7-0, at home on Saturday afternoon at the Combe Tennis Center.
The Wildcats, ranked No. 35 in the country, improved to 8-5 and 3-0 in Big Ten play. while dropping the Scarlet Knights to 5-9.
The 'Cats are undefeated at home this season with a 6-0 record.
Northwestern was thoroughly dominant on the afternoon, beginning with the doubles point and a strong showing from No. 3 and No. 2. Christina Hand and Justine Leong completed a 6-0 win while Hannah McColgan and Briana Crowley followed suit with a 6-1 victory.
All six Wildcats in singles won in straight sets. Ema Lazic scored first to make it 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win in under 45 minutes.
Ch. Hand kept Daira Cardenas at bay in the second set and earned a 6-0, 6-3 win to make it 3-0.
Crowley clinched the match with 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6, a good performance in her first match in the singles lineup since Mar. 23 at Kansas.
The top of the lineup finished off their wins after the clinch shortly after, seeing out comeback efforts in the second set well. Clarissa Hand won 6-2, 6-4 over Tess Fisher and then Maria Shusharina won 6-2, 6-3 over Jackeline Lopez.
With the other matches finished, Justine Leong persisted to take her second set, holding serve for the match on her second opportunity to win 6-2, 7-5 and ensure the sweep.
The 'Cats are back in action at home Sunday at noon to take on Maryland, sporting a 12-2 record.
