'Cats Claim Second Straight B1G Win Against Gophers

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern bested Minnesota 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at the Combe Tennis Center for a home Big Ten sweep on the weekend.
The 'Cats, ranked No. 39, improved to 7-4 and 2-0 in the Big Ten, and dropped No. 48 Minnesota to 12-4.
Northwestern got off to quick start with nearly flawless performances from No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Clarissa Hand and Maria Shusharina took their set 6-0 and Briana Crowley and Christina Hand moved quickly for a 6-1 win to give the 'Cats a 1-0 lead.
First year Sydney Pratt got off the mark first and defeated Vasia Kourvani 6-4, 6-0 with an excellent second set to put the 'Cats ahead 2-0.
Justine Leong won her second match of the weekend with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Anfisa Danilchenko at No. 5 to make it 3-0.
While the Gophers struck one back, Christina Hand clinched the win with a strong third set to win 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 over Dalila Said.
Northwestern hits the road this week for a Wednesday contest at Duke before another two-game homestand next weekend against Big Ten foes Rutgers and Maryland.
