EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern hosts Senior Night on Thursday against Purdue at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT and will be streamed on B1G+ and WNUR Sports.
The 'Cats will honor Jess Sancataldo, Sydney Wood, Courtney Shaw and Veronica Burton. The seniors will be recognized before the game, so please arrive early. It will also be a Purple Out. Fans can pick up a free purple shirt, provided by Two Men and a Truck, in the main lobby while they last! All fans are also encouraged to wear purple to the game.
The four-member class have claimed the second best four-year win percentage in program history (68%) from 2018-22.. They will be remembered as a foundational class who claimed a Big Ten championship in 2020 and won an NCAA Tournament game in 2021.
The 'Cats are coming off a stat-stuffing 82-59 win against Illinois on the road on Sunday as they set a season-high in points (82), assists (23), field goals (33) and field goal percentage (54%).
Seniors Shaw and Burton both enjoyed career-days. Shaw posted a career-high 20 points on a sublime 10-11 clip from the field along with 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Burton finished one steal shy of the second triple-double in program history with 13 points and career-highs of 14 assists and nine steals.
Burton posted both the fourth-most assists and fourth-most steals in a game in program history. Her nine steals gave her third place outright on the Big Ten career steals list and laid her case for National Defensive Player of the Year and her third consecutive Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year award. She is the only player in D-I basketball, men's or women's, to have 100 steals and 150 assists this season.
The 'Cats coasted to an 80-67 win at Purdue on Feb. 4, their third straight win against the Boilermakers. It was another Burton classic as the senior finished with 26 points, six steals, six rebounds and three assists.
