Smith Earns Big Ten Freshman of the Week Honors

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern lacrosse first-year Samantha Smith has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
Smith aided the Wildcats to a pair of victories last week by posting two goals, one assist, two caused turnovers and nine draw controls.
Against Arizona State, she scored a season-high two goals and tallied one assist in a 16-8 victory. The rookie also added four draw controls. Against Marquette, the Mill Valley, Calif. product added an assist and a season-high five draw controls. Smith made her first career start in the 24-13 win over the Golden Eagles.
The No. 6 nationally-ranked Wildcats make the drive to South Bend to face No. 17 Notre Dame at 6 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Feb. 23.
