'Cats Take Down NIU for Fourth-Straight Win

Evanston, IL – Northwestern Wrestling made it four dual wins in a row on Sunday afternoon with a 22-12 victory over Northern Illinois at the Trienens Performance Center.
Six different Wildcats won their bouts as Northwestern defeated the Huskies to sweep a weekend that also included a ranked victory over No. 14 Michigan State in East Lansing on Friday night.
Michael DeAugustino kicked off the afternoon with a dramatic win in sudden victory for the 'Cats, grabbing an 8-6 decision over Bryce West of NIU. DeAugustino has now won five straight duals as the No. 16 wrestler in the country at 125 pounds continues his strong sophomore season.
Chris Cannon picked up where DeAugustino left off in the second bout of the afternoon, as the reigning All-American at 133 pounds delivered his first victory of the season by fall, pinning Mikey Kaminski in 4:24.
Capping off the strong start for Northwestern, Frankie Tal-Shahar grabbed a 9-5 decision over Jaivon Jones, his third straight victory this season, and Yahya Thomas dominated in a 16-5 major decision over Anthony Cheloni.
After NIU made a run to add some drama to the final two bouts of the afternoon, the Davison brothers stepped up to deliver Northwestern another win in the penultimate dual of the season. At 197, Andrew Davison rolled past Tristin Guaman in a 10-3 decision, as the Michigan transfer has now won three of his last four bouts.
In the heavyweight matchup, Lucas Davison outlasted Terrese Aaron in a 2-1 decision, as the No. 10 heavyweight wrestler in the country continued to add to his resume.
Northwestern is back in action for Senior Day on Saturday, as the Wildcats welcome Purdue to Welsh-Ryan Arena at 12:30pm CT.
