LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Northwestern turned in a 10th place finish among the 30+ teams participating in the prestigious Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, headlined by a second place finish from Lucas Davison at the heavyweight division and a 3rd place finish from Yahya Thomas at a loaded 149 lb class.

Also earning podium finishes for the Wildcats were Trevor Chumbley (5th place at 157 lbs), Troy Fisher (5th place at 174 lbs) and Chris Cannon (8th place at 133 lbs).

A returning All-American at the heavyweight class, Davison went 4-1 en route to his highest-career finish in what marked his third trip to the CKLV Invitational. Davison earned bonus points in each of his first two bouts and posted ranked victories over No. 23 ranked Tyrell Gordon (Northern Iowa) and No. 14 AJ Nevills (South Dakota State). Davison dropped a narrow 6-4 decision to fellow All-American No. 3 Mason Parris (Michigan) in the championship bout. Following his performance at CKLV, Davison jumped a spot in the rankings up to No. 5 in the nation at 285 lbs.

At 149 lbs, Yahya Thomas went 5-1 with three bonus-points victories en route to a Top-3 finish at a highly competitive 149 lb weight class. Thomas earned three ranked wins over the weekend, picking up a convincing 5-2 decision over No. 12 ranked Colin Realbuto (Northern Iowa) in Friday night's quarterfinals, a fall over No. 18 Jackson Arrington (NC State), and a 2-1 decision over No. 3 Jonathan Millner (Appalachian State). His lone setback of the weekend came to No. 5 Sammy Sasso (Ohio State), who went on to win the 149 lb bracket. Thomas jumped a spot in the latest FloWrestling rankings up to No. 6 in the nation at 149 lbs.

Trevor Chumbley continued his breakout campaign in his first full season in the Wildcats' lineup at 157 lbs, going 5-2 and finishing 5th place in his class. Chumbley's two losses came by a combined margin of three points against now-No. 3 ranked Kendall Coleman (Purdue; 6-5 decision) and the now-No.12 Ed Scott (NC State; 3-1 decision). Chumbley picked up bonus points in three of his five victories, and moved up two spots in the latest 157 lb rankings up to No. 22 in the country.

Troy Fisher and Chris Cannon each earned podium finishes at 174 lbs and 133 lbs, respectively. Fisher sits firmly at No. 21 in the country at 174 lbs, while the two-time All-American Cannon is ranked No. 12 at 133 lbs. At 125 lbs, Michael DeAugustino earned a No. 1 pre-seed at CKLV, but was forced to pull out of the tournament after suffering an injury in his first bout of the weekend. An All-American last year at 125 lbs, DeAugustino still sits at No. 4 in the country in his weight class.

Northwestern returns to the mat at the end of December for the 58th annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships at NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill (Dec. 29-30). This season's Ken Kraft Midlands Championships will mark a historic occasion, as the most prestigious wrestling non-conference wrestling tournament in the nation will be adding a women's division for the first time ever
