SALT LAKE CITY - The Northwestern fencing team traveled to Salt Lake City to compete at the December NAC this past weekend and came back from the former Olympic host city with some fantastic results.

The foil squad started the weekend off by setting the bar high with a pair of sophomores earning national points towards Senior World Team selection. Yejine Lee had an exciting run through the tableau finishing tenth, while Rowan Park fenced strongly to finish 24th. Yejine and Rowan are now the 54th and 58th ranked US fencers to try and make the Senior World Team. They continued their dominance into the Junior age category, where Park finished 19th and first-year Juliana Hung battled through the massive field of 182 fencers to take 27th. Rowan showed what makes her such a great collegiate fencer, sweeping her pool bouts to be the fourth seed in the direct elimination bracket. Both Rowan and Juliana earned national points and now sit as the 28th and 60th ranked Americans on the Junior points list vying for Junior World Team selection.

First-year epeeist Karen Wang earned national points in her Senior event securing them with a thrilling 15-14 bout. With this result it moves Wang up to be the 39th ranked fencer on the Senior World Team selection list and the 17th ranked fencer on the Junior World Team selection list. Not to be outdone, the sole sabrist competing, second-year Kailing Sathyanath earned National Points with a 35th place finish in Junior and is ranked in the top 100 in her age group in the country.

The Wildcats will return to the strip at the January North American Cup event in Louisville, Kentucky starting on Friday, Jan 6, 2023.
