EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern's Peter Skoronski has become the first Unanimous All-American in Northwestern history, as well as the 15th player in program history to earn consensus All-American status.
Skoronski solidified his name in history with his selection to the American Football Coaches Association's All-America First Team on Wednesday. His selection was the most recent of a bevy of accolades earned over the last month, which includes:
A projected first round pick in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft, Skoronski was graded as the top pass-protector in the country by Pro Football Focus, with a 93.0 pass blocking grade after allowing only six pressures on 480 pass-blocking snaps. According to PFF, it marks the best single-season pass-blocking grade recorded over the last two years. The Park Ridge, Illinois native's 79.1 run-blocking grade also ranks 5th among all qualifying Power 5 tackles.
Five organizations–Associated Press (AP), American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), Sporting News, and Walter Camp Football Foundation (WCFF)–determine a player's All-American status. A player must be selected as a First-Team honoree by at least three of the organizations to qualify as a "consensus All-American." A player named a First-Team All-American by all five organizations receives "unanimous All-American" recognition.
Skoronski becomes the second Northwestern player in the last three seasons (Brandon Joseph; 2020) to be named a consensus All-American. He is the sixth Wildcat offensive lineman in Northwestern history to earn consensus All-American status, and the first since Jack Cvercko in 1962. Northwestern becomes the 89th school to produce a unanimous All-American since 1924.
