Northwestern Falls to Oregon in Opener

EUGENE, OR --The Northwestern women's basketball team got a 19-point performance from the bench, but fell 100-57 to the Oregon Ducks on the road Monday.

Caileigh Walsh led the Wildcats (0-1) with 15 points, six rebounds and two blocks. Paige Mott also tacked on five points from the bench and Courtney Shaw chipped in as well with two points and four assists.

Northwestern shared the ball well in Monday's game, racking up 15 assists on 22 made field goals. Shaw's four assists paced the Wildcats and Caroline Lau also added four assists of her own in her collegiate debut.

Northwestern forced 13 Oregon turnovers and turned those takeaways into six points on the offensive end of the floor, but the effort wasn't enough.

How It Happened

Northwestern struggled out of the gate, falling behind 21-7 by the end of the first quarter.

The Wildcats continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 50-27 halftime deficit.

Northwestern's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Wildcats faced a 74-43 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter.

Northwestern could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 100-57. Northwestern got a boost from its bench in the period, however, with non-starters scoring 10 of its 14 total points.
