EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern will face Niagara tonight at Welsh-Ryan Arena, trying to net their second straight win at home. Tip-off between the two teams is set for 7 p.m. and action will be broadcast on B1G+.
Tonight's matchup continues the Wildcats' non-conference slate and marks their fourth consecutive home game. The 'Cats (2-2) will face off with the Purple Eagles for the first time after collecting an 84-69 victory over Southern Illinois on Saturday.
The win came on a career day for Caileigh Walsh, who has been a big factor in Northwestern's offense so far. The sophomore scored 24 points against the Salukis - the most by a Wildcat in a game this year - and also dealt out a career-high four assists. Walsh leads the team in points (55), field goals (22) and made threes (6) so far this season.
Also in on the action was Courtney Shaw, who logged the first double-double by a Wildcat this season with ten points and 12 rebounds on Saturday. Shaw is leading the team in rebounds, with 25, and averaging 4.2 offensive boards per game for the 'Cats. That's good for first in the Big Ten and 27th nationally thus far.
Along with the returning production, first-year Caroline Lau has been making an impact off Northwestern's bench. In just over 70 minutes of game time, Lau is leading the team with 11 assists, including at least one in each of the Wildcats' games this season.
Tonight's game will be the first ever meeting between Northwestern and Niagara (1-2). The Purple Eagles have split their road contests so far and arrive in Evanston coming off a 68-78 overtime loss to Colgate.
Looking ahead, the Wildcats will wrap up their home stand on Sunday when they face off with Valparaiso. The two teams will tip-off at Welsh-Ryan Arena at 2 p.m.
