Fencing Wraps Up Elite Invitational

PHILADELPHIA - The Northwestern fencing team took on its toughest slate of competition of the year on Saturday, including four ranked teams. The Wildcats came away with one victory and a number of close fought matches.
Facing the host team in the first round, the 'Cats fell to No. 8 Penn 13-14 in a match that came down to the very last bout. Foil and sabre gave strong performances winning 5-4 each.
In the second round, the 'Cats fenced against Long Island for the second time in as many weeks. Repeating their performance from Vassar, the 'Cats downed the Sharks 17-10 with victories across all three squads.
After a round off, the 'Cats took on #11 Temple ultimately falling 12-15. The sabre squad shone brightly against the Owls with a 6-3 victory.
Against the #1 ranked Princeton, the 'Cats fought hard but fell 7-20. The Tigers showed their strength in winning against all three squads.
In the final match of the day, the 'Cats had a rematch against #6 Cornell. The 'Cats couldn't repeat their performance from a week ago and lost 12-15. The epee squad stood out with a 6-3 victory over the Big Red.
Next up, the 'Cats head to the USA Fencing North American Cup in Salt Lake City, UT from December 9-12.
