Wildcats Well Represented in Final Session of Purdue Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Miriam Guevara, Ben Miller and Tyler Lu all cruised to top seeds in their respective events heading into the final session of the Purdue Invitational.
Guevara, coming off a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke last night, led the qualifiers in the women's 200-yard butterfly in a season-best 1:57.95. Hana Shimizu-Bowers (1:59.66) and Roza Erdemli (2:00.11) will join her in the final as the third and fourth seeds.
Miller ensured that the Wildcats would take center stage in both the men's and women's events as he was the fastest man on the morning with a 1:45.45. Tona Zinn (1:47.23) will also contest the final, his third of the meet, qualifying fifth.
Looking for his second victory of the meet, Lu claimed the top spot heading into the men's 200-yard backstroke finals, winning his heat in a time of 1:45.21.
Northwestern will have triple representation in the women's event, with Justine Murdock (1:58.32), Mackenzie Lanning (1:59.76) and Lizzy Follmer (2:01.11) grabbing the fifth, seventh and eighth seeds, respectively, from the morning.
The Wildcats also put three in the top heat of the 100-yard freestyle as Jasmine Nocentini (49.37), Lindsay Ervin (49.68) and Ally Larson (50.24) aim to bring in a massive point haul for the Northwestern women.
The 200-yard breaststroke will be another strong point for both squads as Hannah Brunzell (2:13.85) and Connor Morikawa (2:00.55) are through to the A final.
Northwestern men and women also have chances to pick up points through Jan Karolczak (men's 200-yard backstroke), Collin Schuster (men's 200-yard backstroke), Audrey Yu (women's 100-yard freestyle), Aleksa Bobar (men's 100-yard freestyle), Ben Forbes (men's 100-yard freestyle), Michael Linnihan (men's 100-yard freestyle), Ines Sancho (women's 200-yard breaststroke), Graysen Bernard (men's 200-yard breaststroke), Matthew Lucky (men's 200-yard breaststroke), and Daniel Nowaski (women's 200-yard butterfly), who will represent the Wildcats in the consolation finals of their respective events.
