Wildcats Hit .402 in Sweep Over Rutgers

EVANSTON, Ill. - Behind a .402 hitting percentage, the Northwestern volleyball team powered its way to a three-set victory (25-12, 25-19, 25-22) over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Friday at home at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The Wildcats (13-4, 2-3 B1G) offense was paced by Temi Thomas-Ailara, who finished with 16 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .469, and by Leilani Dodson, who had 10 while hitting .474. Defensively, the Wildcaxts had two players reach double figures in digs as Ellee Stinson had 22 and Megan Miller had 11. From the front row, Dodson contributed five blocks. Taylor Humphrey led the Scarlet Knights (7-10, 1-4 B1G) with eight kills.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Wildcats took control on the first point and held the lead the rest of the way to win the first set 25-12. Northwestern opened up its biggest lead, 13 points, to finish off the set, totaling 16 kills while only notching two attack errors in the process. Northwestern also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Rutgers attacks in the stanza.
SET 2 | After its win in the first set, Northwestern put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-19 victory in set number two. The Wildcats grabbed control of the set lead early on at 4-3 and held the lead the rest of the way. Northwestern led by as many as eight points at 16-8 before closing out the set, collecting 18 kills without committing an attack error in the process.
SET 3 | Northwestern then finished off the match with a victory in set number three. The Wildcats won the third set 25-22. Northwestern took the lead for good at 7-6 in a set that had just one lead change before the Wildcats took over the lead. The Wildcats racked up 19 kills over the course of the set.
