Fencing Opens Season at Remenyik Regional Open

EVANSTON, Ill. - It was a big weekend for Northwestern Fencing in their first competition of the year, an event that featured top competitors from all over the country. The Wildcats hosted the annual Remenyik Regional Open, Junior, and Cadet Circuit event in partnership with USA Fencing at Ryan Fieldhouse.
First-years led the way, in their first outing wearing the Purple, taking home three gold medals out of six possible events. Megumi Oishi took first in both the Junior Women's Sabre and the Senior Women's Sabre events, while Juliana Hung took first in Junior Women's Foil. Adding to the haul of hardware Anna Damratoski took second in the Junior Women's Epee category, while Karen Wang took third in both the Senior and the Junior Women's Epee events,
Second-year foilist Yejine Lee won the Senior Women's Foil with an outstanding comeback from a 13-7 deficit. Lee scored the decisive point in overtime before being swarmed by her teammates coming out of the stands to celebrate. Rowan Park, also a second-year foilist, captured bronze medal finishes in both the Senior and Junior Foil events. Second-year epeeist Athina Kwon took home the silver in the Senior Women's Epee.
Joining their teammates on the podium in Senior Women's Sabre was Levi Hoogendoorn finishing fifth, Thea Nguyen sixth, and Kailing Sathyanath 7th, who also finished 5th in Junior Women's Sabre. In Senior Women's Foil Anna Biasco finished fifth.
